What is backup rotation?

Backup rotation is the process by which the creation of a new backup initiates the removal of the oldest one. If the server is configured to store the last 7 daily backups, it means that after the creation of the eighth backup, the first backup will be deleted. Thus, the last 7 backups are always available.

Backup rotation is vital for any hosting provider because without this rotation and with a large number of clients, the hoster’s backup servers can be overflowed within one month. Unfortunately, no hoster currently can offer endless storage of a large number of old backups, as there are no servers with unlimited disk space.
