How to upload files to a Windows VPS

After you order a VPS, it is powered off by default, so you should start the server first via your customer area (Services – My services – Manage – Boot).

Microsoft Windows

You can use the “Remote Desktop Connection” client to upload files to your VPS. It is a standard application pre-installed on any Windows system. In order to upload files to your server, do as follows:

  1. Click the ‘Search’ button near the ‘Start menu’ at your system;
  2. Type “remote desktop” inside the search line:
  3. Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection application icon will appear as a search result. Click it;
  4. Once the app is launched, click the “Show Options” button;
  5. Type the IP of your VPS in the ‘Computer’ field an Administrator in the ‘User name’ field;
  6. Switch to the “Local Resources” tab;
  7. Find the “Local devices and resources” block and click the “More” button;
  8. Choose which local disks or resources will be connected with your VPS by hitting the checkboxes. Click OK;
  9. Click the “Connect” button;
  10. A new window will be opened where you have to type your password in (you can find your pass in the welcome email) and click OK;
  11. Click ‘Yes’ to accept the certificate and establish the connection;
  12. Go to “This PC” on your VPS and you will see connected local disks inside the “Devices and drives” section. Now you can upload files from these disks to your VPS.

 

 

macOS

You can use the “Microsoft Remote Desktop” client to upload files to your VPS. It is an official Microsoft application for MacOS that can be installed through AppStore. In order to upload files to your server, do as follows:

  1. Launch the “Microsoft Remote Desktop” client from Launchpad or Dock;
  2. Click the “+” button and then “Desktop”;
  3. Type the IP of your VPS in the “PC name” field (you can find the IP of your VPS in the welcome email);
  4. Select “Add User Account” in the “User account” drop-down list. When a new window appears, type Administrator in the “Username” field and your password in the “Password” field (you can find it in the welcome email);
  5. Switch to the “Folders” tab;
  6. Hit the “Redirect folders” checkbox and click “+”;
  7. Choose which folder will be connected with your VPS and click the “Open” button;
  8. Click “+” if you want to add another folder;
  9. Click the “Add” button;
  10. If you want, you can add this new connection to some connection group in the “Group” menu. After this, click the “Add” button to save settings;
  11. The saved connection will appear at the general list. Click it and press Enter;
  12. Click “Continue” to accept the certificate. The connection will be established if all the data is specified correctly;
  13. Go to “This PC” on your VPS and you will see connected folders inside the “Devices and drives” section. Now you can upload files from these folders to your VPS.

 

 

Linux

You can use the “Remmina” client to upload files to your VPS. It is a free application which can be installed by the instruction. In order to upload files to your server, do as follows:

  1. Launch the “Remmina” client;
  2. Click the “+” button to the left from the IP input field;
  3. Make sure that the RDP protocol is chosen in the opened connection settings window;
  4. Enter the IP of your VPS, username, and password (you can find it in the welcome email);
  5. Set the color depth to High Color (32 bit/pixel);
  6. Hit the checkbox in front of “Share folder” and select “Other” in the nearest drop-down list;
  7. Choose which folder will be connected with your VPS and click the “Open” button;
  8. Click the “Connect” button;
  9. Go to “This PC” on your VPS and you will see connected folders inside the “Devices and drives” section. Now you can upload files from these folders to your VPS.
